＜研究発表・報告＞8 ‘Japanese National Music and Cultural Identity: Analysis of Articles in Japanese Musical Magazines in Early 1940s’（英文）
（日本の国民音楽と文化的アイデンティティ――1940年代前半の音楽雑誌記事の分析）

This presentation dealt with the thoughts on Japanese national music during 1940-44 and discussed what the Japanese cultural identity at that time was. It concluded that (1) capability of cultural assimilation was thought to be a special ability peculiar to Japanese, and (2) Japanese musical identity was not found at Japanese traditional music itself; rather at the Japanese capability to make new music by assimilating diverse musics.
（本発表は1940～44年の日本の国民音楽に関する思想を分析の対象にして、当時の文化的アイデンティティのありようを明らかにした。その結果、（1）日本人の文化的折衷の能力は日本人に固有の特殊能力であると考えられたこと、（2）日本人の音楽的アイデンティティは日本の伝統音楽そのものではなく、日本人が多様な音楽を折衷して新しい音楽を作り出す能力をもつことに見いだされたことを結論として得た。）
